about
In the summer of 2018, I moved to Malaysia and, without meaning to, continued to write songs. ‘Carried Your Weight’ is quite simply a release of frustration at a situation back home which I felt powerless to influence or help resolve; I could only observe from afar. Living 7000 miles away from your family and friends has its difficulties, and feeling the distance is definitely one of them. This track is personal and I think you can really hear that in my vocal takes.
lyrics
Can you feel this? ‘Cos I feel it too; the rest have carried your weight but you don’t see that
I’ve never seen you miss; does that feel so good?
If you could see yourself right now, moving closer to the edge
We should have stayed at home behind closed doors
Instead, I’m pulling all the stops; wide eyes, no speech
Still out here on our knees
Am I better off than on?
Have you found yourself some standards from behind your cloak and dagger?
(4 – A – M)
Are you wide awake with my voice inside your head you just can’t shake?
Come on, do you not see this like I see it?
I keep the lights off in my room ‘cos I’m still hanging by a thread; this ringing is louder than confession and my prayers
Am I better off than on?
Have you found yourself some standards from behind your cloak and dagger?
You’re just a stranger to me now; get out of my head or get out of this house
Trade in the closest for the palm of her hand
She’s got you twisted ‘round her fingers, so lay down or get out of this house
